A blogger from China criticized crypto investigator ZachXBT, who in recent years has become one of the industry’s most prominent blockchain detectives. In the post, the author questioned his independence.

The criticism centers on several cases at once — from the story surrounding the ZAI token to the launch of the ZACHXBT memecoin, where, according to the blogger, the investigator’s actions raised concerns due to their potential market impact and possible personal financial gain.

Reasons Behind the Allegations

One of the main examples cited by the blogger was the ZAI situation, when the project used ZachXBT’s public wallet address to attract attention.

“After receiving the tokens, he sold part of his position, which increased selling pressure and hurt late buyers,” the author of the accusations stated.

Separately, the post also referenced the ZACHXBT memecoin case, where, according to the publication, 16,348 SOL was withdrawn from the liquidity pool.

Conflict of Interest or Bias?

The criticism went beyond individual trades and focused on his broader pattern of behavior. The author connected several factors — receiving airdrops, quickly selling memecoins, building hype ahead of exposés, and growing ties with major platforms.

Additional scrutiny came from mentions of Binance’s support in covering ZachXBT’s legal expenses, as well as his cooperation with BNB Chain on risk-control matters. This led part of the community to question where the line is between independent investigation and becoming part of the market infrastructure.

Anonymity as a Vulnerability

Another major part of the discussion is the crypto detective’s anonymity, which he maintains to this day. No one knows his real name, team, or underlying interests. At the same time, his influence on the market and media space is comparable to that of major industry publications, while monetization — through partnerships, airdrops, and traffic, according to commentators — appears to be substantial.
