Zcash founder and head Josh Swihart unveiled the network’s near-term roadmap at Consensus Miami, with quantum-resistant wallets set as a key priority for launch within the next month.

The project aims to complete its full transition to post-quantum security within 12–18 months. At the same time, the team is also working to scale the network to payment throughput comparable to Visa and Mastercard.

It was also revealed that crypto fund Multicoin Capital acquired a major ZEC position, while the token itself has surged more than 110% over the past 30 days.

Swihart also challenged Bitcoin’s current role as a tool for digital financial freedom.

“Bitcoin has solidified itself as a store of value and an exchange-traded product, but blockchain transparency has undermined its original purpose as private peer-to-peer money. Visible balances have made government oversight and asset seizure significantly easier,” he said.

User Onboarding

At the user level, Zcash is currently expanding its base through Electric Coin Company’s mobile wallet. Following its October integration with Near Intents, the wallet gained the ability to execute cross-chain swaps of BTC, SOL, and USDC into shielded ZEC.

Near Intents allows users to define their desired swap outcome, after which routers automatically execute the transaction across multiple blockchains.

Since launch, this channel has processed between $600M and $700M, with most activity concentrated in dollar and USDC transactions.

According to Near Protocol, over the past 30 days the broader Intents ecosystem has handled nearly $800M in volume, with Ethereum, Solana, and Zcash ranking among the largest networks involved.
