The exclusive digital collectible Telegram Plane sold out within hours, with bids reaching up to $113,000.
Pavel Durov announced that Telegram has begun testing NFT gift sales through auctions, launching an experimental limited collection called Telegram Plane. A total of 1,000 unique NFT gifts were put up for bidding.
The auction included 50 rounds, each offering 20 Telegram Plane NFTs to the top 20 bidders. The first round lasted an hour, while the remaining 49 rounds ran for five minutes each.
The Telegram Plane NFT quickly drew strong community interest and intense competition. Bids were placed in Telegram Stars and TON, with entry into the top 20 already exceeding $3,000 — and climbing almost every minute.
In the first round, the top bid reached $113,000 (7.5 M Telegram Stars or 61,000 $TON). The second-highest bid came in at $110,000, followed by $70,000. The lowest winning bid to enter the top 20 was just over $3,000 and continued to rise.
Participants actively discussed whether the order or rarity of the gifts would depend on the final leaderboard rankings.
According to user observations, the average price for a single Telegram Plane reached $335,782 (2,702 $TON) by the end of the auction.
Rumors within the crypto community suggest total revenue from the first six hours approached $5 M. Influencer Giooton called it the most expensive NFT auction in history.
“What a time to be alive,” he wrote.
