Vanya, the co-founder of the NFT marketplace GetGems, told the Telegram channel “Chesnok” that the TON ecosystem has entered its first “gift war.”
According to him, most marketplaces have temporarily dropped their commissions to zero in a bid to attract users, but this won’t last long.
“It seems the first global gift war will be short-lived – the market will stabilize quickly,” Vanya said.
He explained that GetGems remains profitable despite removing fees from gift sales, thanks to revenue from other collections, launchpads, and partnership projects.
Vanya described Telegram gifts as “perfect collectible NFTs,” comparing them to stamps and sports cards, but with the advantages of digital ownership.
He linked the segment’s future growth to user adoption.
“Right now, about two million people own gifts. For a project of this scale, that’s not much. We should aim for one hundred million,” he stated.
In his view, Telegram needs to continue launching new collections – from regional series to collaborations with major brands, musicians, and sports teams. He estimates the total number of gifts could eventually reach between 200M and 500M.
Vanya also emphasized the importance of on-chain trading and warned against moving activity off-chain, as such deals aren’t reflected on the blockchain and slow TON’s development.
“We kept commissions at zero long enough to encourage high-value gifts to trade on-chain and positively impact the ecosystem,” he noted.
For the next stage of NFT growth on TON, Vanya believes the ecosystem needs simple developer tools, more on-chain collections from Telegram, and new formats for NFT interaction.
Among his personal favorites, he mentioned the Gatto and Lost Dogs collections, praising their originality and engaged communities.
In closing, Vanya said he would ask Pavel Durov to expand Telegram’s API for gifts and simplify the minting process to accelerate ecosystem development.
