NFT project Doodles is following OpenSea into the memecoin race by launching its own token, DOOD, on the Solana blockchain. According to the announcement, a total of 10 billion tokens will be issued, with a portion allocated to community members.

In the future, the team plans to create a bridge to transfer the token into the Base ecosystem, which is incubated by Coinbase.

DOOD Token Distribution:

  • 30% — Doodles ecosystem users
  • 25% — Project development fund
  • 17% — Developer team
  • 13% — New ecosystem participants
  • 10% — Liquidity support
  • 5% — Company holdings

The exact date of the airdrop has not yet been revealed, but the team emphasizes that the token is designed for long-term ecosystem growth rather than short-term speculation.

The NFT Token Race

The launch of DOOD is part of a growing trend among NFT brands expanding their ecosystems through token issuance. In December 2024, Pudgy Penguins released its token PENGU with a total supply of 88.88 billion tokens on Solana. Earlier that month, NFT marketplace Magic Eden introduced its own token, ME.

Another possible trigger for the accelerated DOOD announcement was OpenSea’s launch of its SEA token, which was revealed just a day before.

Rumors about OpenSea’s token had been circulating since November 2024, when an X user named Pluid hinted at a possible airdrop. Shortly after, the platform announced its OS2 update, which entered testing in January 2025.

Doodles: From NFT Collection to Business Ecosystem

Doodles began as a collection of 10,000 NFT artworks but has significantly expanded its presence by developing animation, music, and securing brand partnerships with companies like McDonald's.

According to The Block's Data Dashboard, Doodles trading volume from February 2 to 9 reached $2.46 million, showing sustained interest in the project.
