Rumors have emerged online that OpenSea may be planning to release its own token. The news was first shared by X user Pluid. Interestingly, the rumors surfaced shortly after the announcement of a new version of the platform, set to launch in December. Now, users are discussing potential signs hinting at a token launch while awaiting an official announcement.

What Are the Signs of a Token Launch

The OpenSea team previously announced a “brand new version” of the platform. A beta testing site has been opened, with over 700,000 addresses already registered. One of the first testers, user john.weth, shared screenshots of OpenSea v2 and described its new features, including:

  • A user page now displays wallet activity rather than just stored NFTs.
  • A Leaderboard showcasing user activities.
  • A hidden Retro section, which hints at potential retrospective token rewards for long-time platform users.
  • A Season 1 loyalty system similar to Blur, where user activities, such as placing orders or offering NFTs, increase their points.

These features have led users to speculate that a token could be launched as a reward for active and long-time users.

Some users also believe that actions by competitors like Magic Eden may have pushed OpenSea to speed up its token launch. Magic Eden recently confirmed the release of its $ME token.

However, even if OpenSea announces a token launch, users believe that the Token Generation Event (TGE) might not happen until 2026.
