Cryptocurrency exchange Xeggex is facing serious issues after users reported sudden loss of access to their accounts and missing balances. This sparked concerns that the platform may have fallen victim to fraud. However, Xeggex representatives stated that the CEO's account had been hacked.
Security Measures and Suspension of Operations
According to the company, after the CEO’s account was hacked, the management disconnected the database from the network to prevent further threats. This resulted in temporary login issues for users, but Xeggex claims customer funds are safe as the wallets have been locked.
While the website remains accessible, the order books are empty, and balances are not visible. This has raised new concerns among users, who suspect a more severe system breach. However, blockchain data shows no movement of funds, and the exchange said it is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
Official Statement from Xeggex
"In this difficult time, our CEO's account was hacked, including Telegram and the Xeggex community group. We do not yet know all the details. The main thing is that we managed to lock the wallets, and customer funds are safe," the company said.
They also noted that work is underway to restore the system, and an update will be posted once the situation becomes clearer.
User Support and Recommendations
Xeggex's native token XPE rose by 6.51% over the past 24 hours, which may indicate that the asset has not reacted negatively to the news. However, if a larger hack or a worsening situation is confirmed, this could change.
Despite the difficulties, users have expressed support for the Xeggex team and are calmly awaiting the platform's restoration. A message about unplanned maintenance appeared on the exchange's official website: "Unplanned maintenance. We will be back soon."
One community member also warned:
"Friends, if Xeggex is unavailable, don't panic — it's due to unplanned maintenance after the security incident. The CEO's accounts on Telegram and Discord were hacked, and as a precaution, the platform is undergoing a system update. Do not share your details with anyone online, especially on Discord and other platforms. Wait for official statements from the exchange."
The company continues to work on mitigating the incident and promises to provide more detailed information soon.
