At the end of August 2025, the Web3 gaming sector once again became the most active segment of decentralized applications, despite the overall industry downturn. According to the DappRadar report, the total number of active dApp users fell by 18%, while the AI segment dropped by 63%. Gaming, however, lost only 4% of activity, reaching 4.7 million unique active wallets per day.

NFTs took second place in activity, further emphasizing the shift in market structure. At the blockchain level, opBNB remained the leader in gaming, but the rise of Sei to second place was a notable event. Integration with MetaMask simplified access to tokens, NFTs, and games in this network for over 100 million users.
Key Blockchain Updates
On the SKALE network, the project It Remains launched through Nebula, introducing a media franchise with books, AR/VR games, and NFTs. It runs with no fees and includes governance functions via NFTs. A Netflix adaptation is also planned.
On the METABORA (BORA) platform, integration with the Kaia liquidity protocol took place. This allowed users to stake BORA tokens and provide liquidity in DEX, strengthening the link between DeFi and gaming tokens.
Immutable launched Immutable Play, a platform for Web2 studios transitioning to Web3. Ubisoft became its first partner. The network already supports more than 660 games, which will soon be united on a single blockchain.
Closures and Relaunches
Despite growing activity, some projects shut down. Pirate Nation will fully close in September due to high expenses and low demand. Tokyo Beast lasted just over a month before shutting down servers on August 24. Eldarune stopped development, and the studio dissolved. The developers of Age of Dino also announced the closure of their main project and related app.
Against a backdrop of unstable revenues and a lack of sustainable funding, even major launches may fail to withstand competition.
Leaders and Upcoming Releases
World of Dypians remained at the top of the rankings. Titles on the Sei network also strengthened their positions, confirming the ecosystem’s growth. Several major upcoming releases are expected:
- Axie Infinity: Atia’s Legacy by Sky Mavis (MMORPG) – late 2025
- Shrapnel by Neon Machine (FPS) – closed launch by year-end
- Might & Magic: Fates by Ubisoft – card strategy, December 10, 2025
- EVE Frontier by CCP Games – blockchain version of EVE Online, in alpha
- Star Atlas by ATMTA – sci-fi MMORPG moving to its own L1 network
- Wildcard by Playful Studios – MOBA with card game elements
These releases highlight interest from major Web2 studios and increased demands for quality in Web3 projects.
Metaverses Show Sales Growth
Virtual worlds also showed activity. In August, nearly 14,000 deals were made in metaverses, totaling $6.5 million. This was only 3% less in volume but 27% more in the number of sales compared to July.
Following the largest LAND auction and the launch of Casio avatars in The Sandbox, the company cut half its staff and changed leadership. Management was transferred to Robby Yung from Animoca.
Mocaverse announced the testnet of the Moca Chain network and updated its tokenomics by extending lockups. The project is strengthening integration with loyalty programs.
Otherside introduced AI-based tools and conducted a stress test of multiplayer loading. The release of “Voyager 2.0” was also announced.
Decentraland is preparing an engine update and hosting Metaverse Art Week 2025. HYTOPIA released the HYBUX token, doubled World prices, and increased the Creator Fund to $250,000. The project is moving to the Base network.
How Investments Were Distributed
The Web3 gaming industry attracted $51 million in August, 15% less than in July. Funds were distributed among several key projects.
Shrapnel raised $19.5 million for development, publishing, and closed beta launch in China. A global release is expected in early 2026. The project will move to GalaChain and build cross-chain bridges.
SuperGaming raised $15 million to develop the Indus game and Base L3 infrastructure. The ecosystem already includes more than 200 million Web2 users.
OVERTAKE and PlaysOut raised $7 million each. OVERTAKE is developing a P2P marketplace for secure in-game item trading, while PlaysOut integrates tokenized mini-games into superapps, including WeChat and Telegram.
If these initiatives are implemented, late 2025 and early 2026 could become a turning point for mainstream blockchain gaming.
