The developers aim to make the network more efficient, increase network throughput, strengthen protection against future quantum threats, while also simplifying the protocol’s architecture. The changes are expected to make Ethereum easier to develop and maintain going forward.
Buterin said that the upcoming upgrades will serve as a transitional phase before Lean Ethereum. Over the next several years, developers plan to gradually increase the network’s throughput and reduce transaction confirmation times.
