TON validators voted for the full activation of Catchain 2.0, an update to the network’s consensus mechanism. According to the final vote, the proposal needed support from at least 75% of validators by stake weight over two validation rounds — roughly 36 hours.

Pavel Durov wrote on X that the blockchain has become 10x faster: block production increased 6x, and transaction finality is now sub-second.

“This is the first of seven planned steps in the MTONGA (Make TON Great Again) program,” he said.

The reward per block remains unchanged: 1.7 Toncoin for a masterchain block and 1.0 Toncoin for a basechain block. However, since blocks are now produced about 6 times faster, validators generate more of them per round, which increases total payouts per round. As a result, TON’s annual inflation will rise from ~0.6% to ~3.6%.

“Our next step is to reduce transaction fees by 6x,” Durov promised.
