According to The Washington Post, the Democratic Party is preparing a series of investigations into the Trump family’s crypto interests in case Democrats win a majority in the House of Representatives in the November elections. The focus will be on profits from overseas crypto deals, investments by venture funds linked to the president’s sons, and the purchase of a stake in a crypto company by UAE investors shortly before the inauguration.

What Democrats Plan to Investigate

The House Oversight Committee is already tracking the Trump family’s income from cryptocurrency and foreign deals. According to the committee’s calculations, Trump earned $2.25B from foreign transactions during the first year of his second term.

Jamie Raskin, who would chair the House Judiciary Committee if Democrats win, has requested information about investments made by the venture funds 1789 Capital and American Ventures, which are linked to Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. Raskin plans to determine whether companies in the funds’ portfolios received government contracts or favorable treatment from the administration.

Beyond cryptocurrency, Democrats are preparing investigations into IRS claims benefiting Trump’s businesses, Truth Social’s sale of accelerated access to posts by the president, and pardons granted to campaign donors.

The UAE Deal

Gregory Meeks, who oversees foreign policy issues, plans to investigate the role of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in diplomatic missions while they have personal financial interests.

Meeks pointed to a deal in which UAE-linked investors acquired a $500M stake in a crypto company managed by Trump’s sons and Witkoff’s sons. The deal was completed several days before the president’s inauguration last year.

White House press secretary Anna Kelly said Witkoff had stepped away from his crypto project and that Witkoff’s and Kushner’s personal businesses were not connected to their diplomatic activities.

White House Reaction

Dave Rapallo, a former chief of staff for the House Oversight Committee, noted that the administration is already preparing to block investigations by invoking executive privilege and challenging the Presidential Records Act.

“These investigations are a way to interfere with the administration’s work, not a real agenda for voters,” the White House said.
