Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said on Fox Business on August 6 that the first procedural vote on the CLARITY Act should take place before lawmakers leave for the August recess. According to Scott, Senate Majority Leader John Thune still has time to schedule the bill for consideration, and the Senate could remain in session longer than originally planned.

Scott said Republicans are continuing to build support for the procedural vote.

“Every hour, more senators are saying yes,” he said.

The senator expressed confidence that once nearly all Republicans are behind the bill, some Democrats will also support advancing it.

Scott also listed the CLARITY Act among the Senate’s top legislative priorities before the end of the current session. The list also includes funding the federal government, the defense budget, and confirming the president’s nominees. If some of these priorities are not completed before the recess, which is expected to begin around August 8–10, work on them will continue after lawmakers return.

At the time of Scott’s remarks, the Senate had not yet scheduled a vote, and the process required to bring the bill to the floor had not yet begun. That procedural step requires 60 votes to pass.
