The latest GTA 6 (GTA VI) trailer has reignited excitement around the game, but within the Web3 community, the main question remains — will the new installment include cryptocurrency? Despite widespread speculation and hype from fans, Rockstar Games has made no official statements about plans to integrate blockchain or digital assets into the game. So, is there a chance? Read on.
Speculation, Memecoins, and Copycats
Recently, it was confirmed that the game’s release is delayed to mid-2026. Following this news, the team released a new trailer, and the internet quickly filled with unofficial crypto projects leveraging the franchise’s popularity.
Tokens named after characters are being created, wild theories about Web3 mechanics are surfacing — all of which are completely unrelated to Rockstar’s official stance. As reported by Alva.xyz neither Rockstar nor its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have mentioned cryptocurrency or blockchain in any announcements.
Furthermore, in 2022, Rockstar explicitly banned cryptocurrency and NFTs from user-operated GTA Online servers. Since then, several initiatives attempting to introduce digital assets into the game have been shut down. The developers made it clear they do not support such integration in their games.
Third-Party Attempts So Far Unsuccessful
In the absence of any statement from Rockstar, influencers are attempting to launch their own crypto-related ideas. Recently, streamer Adin Ross and FaZe Clan co-founder Richard Bengtson announced plans to create a crypto server for GTA 6. According to them, the in-game economy will be built around a digital currency, and the project budget is said to be in the multimillion-dollar range. However, given Rockstar’s existing restrictions, these plans seem highly unrealistic.
The most recent trailer focuses entirely on the storyline and visuals, with no hint of Web3, blockchain, or tokens.
While some game studios are experimenting with Web3 mechanics, major franchises like GTA are in no hurry to follow.
The community continues to speculate about potential integration, but for now, all discussions remain purely speculative and fueled by enthusiasts' hopes.
