Popular Kick streamer Adin Ross announced his intention to launch a cryptocurrency server in Grand Theft Auto 6. The project will also involve FaZe Clan co-founder Richard Bengtson. They plan to create a platform where the in-game economy will be entirely based on cryptocurrency.

"When GTA 6 comes out, Ricky and I will make the biggest server. And it will be fully crypto-based," Ross said during a live stream.

FaZe Banks added that the in-game economy will be built on a new digital currency, and the creators are ready to invest significant funds into the project.

Rockstar Bans Cryptocurrency in GTA

However, Ross and Bengtson’s plans may not come to fruition. In 2022, Rockstar Games, the developer of the Grand Theft Auto series, issued a statement banning cryptocurrency and NFTs on user servers in GTA Online and Red Dead Online. After this announcement, many gaming platforms that had integrated digital assets ceased operations.

One of the affected projects was The Trenches, an RP server created by rapper Durk Banks, known as Lil Durk. The platform included NFT elements but was shut down shortly after receiving a warning from Take-Two Interactive’s legal team, Rockstar’s parent company.

Will Cryptocurrency Be in GTA 6?

Despite Rockstar’s strict policy, rumors about the possible integration of cryptocurrency in GTA 6 have been circulating for years. In 2021, there were reports that the in-game economy might include digital assets, but no official confirmation has been given.

Some analysts believe that if cryptocurrency does appear in the game, it will likely be a form of satire rather than a real payment tool. The Grand Theft Auto series is known for its irony toward modern society, and digital assets could become a target of parody.

Take-Two and Blockchain Game Experiments

Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of GTA, has already worked with blockchain projects. In 2022, the company acquired mobile game developer Zynga, which was involved in creating the NFT game Sugartown. However, in 2024, Zynga separated from Take-Two, focusing on developing Web3 projects under the brand D20 Labs.

Given Rockstar’s current policy, the launch of a cryptocurrency server in GTA 6 still seems unlikely, experts believe. However, the situation could change, especially with shifting sentiments in the industry. The interest of Donald Trump in the sector and his ambitions to make the U.S. a hub for the cryptocurrency industry indicate that the market continues to evolve in unpredictable ways.
