The advocacy group Public Citizen estimated the combined losses of holders of crypto products linked to Donald Trump and his family at at least $4.7B. The estimate covers the TRUMP memecoin, the WLFI token, the USD1 stablecoin, NFT cards, and bitcoin held on Trump Media’s balance sheet. Most of the losses are unrealized declines in value rather than cash losses already locked in through sales.

The organization based its analysis on samples from on-chain analysts Nansen and Bubblemaps covering decentralized exchanges, as well as company filings and the president’s financial disclosure. On-chain data does not cover trades made on centralized platforms.

Public Citizen is using the report to support restrictions on the president of the United States and his immediate family members holding crypto assets under the CLARITY Act.

Losses on TRUMP

The TRUMP memecoin launched on January 17, 2025. Its price climbed as high as $73.43, while the report puts it at around $2.2 in August 2026.

According to Nansen, around 1 million of the 1.6 million retail wallets that bought the token on Solana’s decentralized exchanges were still below their purchase price. The organization estimated their combined loss at $3.2B, including around $400M already realized through sales. Public Citizen included the full $3.2B in its final table.

A Bubblemaps sample covering all DEX addresses showed around $4.5B in losses across roughly 1 million wallets. Profits were concentrated among early buyers: the top 1% of profitable addresses captured around 80% of the total gains.

WLFI Added Another $1B

Almost all of the estimated WLFI loss is tied to the corporate holdings of AI Financial Corporation. The company bought the tokens for around $1.46B and valued them at $421 M as of June 30, 2026, implying a paper loss of around $1.04B.

The Nansen retail sample showed more than $50M in combined losses among wallets holding the tokens below their purchase price. Trades on centralized exchanges were largely excluded from this calculation.

Trump Media’s Bitcoin Reserve

As of June 30, 2026, Trump Media held 9,477 BTC, purchased for around $1.006B. The position had a market value of $557M, so the overall estimate included a decline of around $450M. NFTs added another $9.3M. The organization did not record any losses for USD1.

In Trump’s 2025 financial disclosure, media reports put his income connected to crypto projects at no less than $1.4B.
