Interactive NFT platform Flickplay and Japanese gaming giant Bandai Namco Entertainment have partnered to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the iconic Pac-Man game. They are launching a digital collectible hunt inspired by Pokémon GO mechanics, beginning with exclusive collectible NFT releases.
First Collection
The first collection will be available exclusively in Tokyo's Shibuya district, where Pac-Man debuted in 1980, according to Decrypt. The launch coincides with the DIG Shibuya festival, running from February 8–11, 2025. Participants can visit over 40 locations to exchange in-game Flickplay currency, Diamonds, for digital items.
Second Collection
The second series of collectible toys will be accessible through Flickplay's online store, without location restrictions. Details on timing and conditions are yet to be disclosed.
To join, users need to purchase an Experience Pass, granting enough Diamonds to claim the Shibuya collection. Pass holders will also receive one Pac-Man NFT and a chance to acquire a "Mystic Super Rare Item."
Future Plans and Blockchain Integration
Flickplay, which already supports Flow, Ethereum and Polygon blockchains, is in talks with other Ethereum Layer 2 networks to enhance product compatibility. The blockchain for the new Pac-Man NFTs has not been finalized. The company is also exploring gaming platforms for deeper integration of collectible characters.
Flickplay CEO Pierina Merino highlights the project’s goal to simplify user interactions across NFT ecosystems, aligning with the company’s 2025 roadmap.
