MetaMask has launched an updated version of its MetaMask Card, now available in the US, South America, and Europe. The main upgrade includes a metal design and 3% cashback in USDC. Here’s how to apply.
What’s known
MetaMask partnered with fintech company Baanx Group to launch the card. According to the announcement, users can pay with crypto directly without needing to convert assets into fiat through banks or exchanges.
Currently, the card supports USDC, USDT, and Wrapped ETH (wETH). It is available in the US (except New York and Vermont), the UK, the European Economic Area (EEA), Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.
Premium design and expanded features
MetaMask highlights that the new card offers both functionality and a premium metal design. Key benefits include:
- Crypto payments without needing to hold ETH for gas fees. Bitcoin and Solana support will be added soon.
- 3% cashback in USDC on the first $10,000 spent, then 1%.
- Integration with Apple Pay and Google Pay.
- Global acceptance at merchants supporting Mastercard.
- Enhanced MEV protection against value-extracting attacks.
Currently, the card is being tested by selected users who can apply via MetaMask Portfolio → Card. Users in unsupported regions can join the waitlist.
New features in the MetaMask ecosystem
MetaMask has recently introduced several updates. The Gas Station feature allows users to pay network fees directly in the transaction, eliminating the need to hold ETH. This improves transaction speed and makes Web3 more accessible.
The company also plans to expand card availability and introduce new rewards programs for users.
Visa launches crypto card with Avalanche support
MetaMask isn’t the only company expanding crypto payments. Avalanche recently launched a Visa-powered payment card, enabling users to spend crypto without converting to fiat.
The card supports USDC, USDT, Wrapped AVAX, and AVAX and was developed in partnership with Rain. It functions like a credit card but with a crypto balance.
According to John Wu, president of Ava Labs, the new card will make digital assets more accessible for everyday use.
