Changpeng Zhao commented on Giggle Academy’s practice of selling tokens it receives as donations. He explained that the academy regularly converts most of those tokens into BNB to fund the project.
Giggle Academy is a nonprofit organization that Changpeng Zhao launched after stepping down as Binance CEO. The platform provides children around the world with free educational materials covering school subjects, programming, financial literacy, blockchain, and AI. The project is funded by Zhao himself as well as through voluntary donations, including cryptocurrency.
How the Academy Uses Crypto Donations
According to Zhao, Giggle Academy regularly converts most of the tokens it receives as donations into BNB, usually toward the end of each month. He emphasized that he does not control the organization’s wallet and was not involved in discussions about the latest token sale.
When necessary, the project also sells part of its BNB holdings to fund its ongoing operations. Information about how the funds are spent is published on the Support Us page, while all transactions remain publicly visible on the blockchain.
“Sending tokens without a prior agreement does not obligate the recipient to follow the sender’s wishes, including requests to hold or burn the assets. If tokens are donated to the academy, it has the right to use them for their stated purpose,” Zhao emphasized.
The Sale of MAME Tokens
As an example, the entrepreneur pointed to the MAME meme coin. The project’s community donated tokens worth approximately $162,000 to Giggle Academy, after which the academy sold the entire amount in line with its standard policy.
MAME representatives publicly confirmed that the donation was intended from the outset to support the educational project rather than influence the token’s circulation. Other communities that previously donated assets to Giggle Academy have made similar statements.
Zhao’s Stance on Meme Coins
CZ also said that he supports all meme coins, adding that he may buy or sell one or two of them over the coming weeks to test new approaches.
