Journalist Thomas Germain successfully compromised the search algorithms of major tech corporations. He published a fabricated article on his personal website about his outstanding achievements in hot dog eating.

In less than 24 hours, chatbots from Google, as well as OpenAI, began broadcasting this information to millions of users. The experiment revealed a critical vulnerability within the architecture of modern generative networks.

How the Vulnerability Works

Upon receiving specific queries, neural networks turn to the internet. Malicious actors create information voids specifically for them by publishing fakes on unmoderated websites. The algorithms then scan these resources, presenting the single found source as a reliable answer.

Gemini products, together with ChatGPT, duplicated Germain's fiction without the slightest verification of the primary source. The Claude model by Anthropic completely ignored the provocation.

Scaling the Threat

This vulnerability became an aggressive marketing tool since marketers massively publish sponsored articles to promote questionable products.

Consequently, Google's algorithms blindly broadcast the advertising claims of cannabis gummy manufacturers, completely omitting the real side effects. Turkish hair transplant clinics, plus gold-selling companies, also successfully apply similar schemes.

Crisis of Trust

“This is a renaissance for spammers,” says Lily Ray, vice president of the Amsive agency. “Corporations deploy underdeveloped algorithms for profit without taking the time to develop security filters.”

Generated answers reduce link click-through rates by 58%, causing users to stop visiting original websites to check primary sources. Readers have to manually verify facts because automated systems let a stream of manipulations pass through.
