According to CoinDesk, leadership at X is actively discussing using stablecoins, specifically Circle’s USDC, to pay out royalties for original content.

Royalty payouts

While X representatives haven't issued an official comment, a source confirmed that talks are ongoing.

This isn't Elon Musk’s first rodeo with digital dollars. SpaceX, which went public earlier this year, already accepts stablecoins for Starlink satellite internet subscriptions across emerging markets.

Strengthening its crypto chops, X brought on industry veteran Benji Taylor in March as Head of Design, split across xAI and SpaceX. Taylor previously led design for Coinbase’s Base L2 network and brings deep experience in Web3 wallets and DeFi protocols.

Revamping creator monetization

The potential stablecoin integration aligns with a broader overhaul of X’s payout mechanics. The platform is phasing out its legacy Revenue Sharing program in favor of a revamped Original Content Rewards Program.

"The new program is designed to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary to X," the company stated.
