Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin publicly praised Fileverse, a decentralized document collaboration tool. He confirmed he now uses the platform for collaborative editing and sending drafts for review.
Buterin highlighted independence from network effects as the product's primary advantage. Users can share documents with anyone, even those completely unfamiliar with Web3 or Ethereum. Recipients can view and comment immediately. This eliminates the need for wallet registration, solving a major friction point that often hinders crypto app adoption.
In response, the Fileverse team outlined their roadmap for the coming year. Developers plan to release an integration toolkit, allowing third-party projects to leverage Fileverse’s encryption infrastructure. This enables builders to create secure software without engineering complex backends from scratch.
However, Buterin’s optimism is not universal. Technical experts pointed out potential centralization vectors within the service. Developer Mario Havel shared screenshot showing the Fileverse interface loading multiple third-party APIs.
“I just don't understand why we need another VC funded startup when the FOSS community has embraced truly self-hosted tools like Cryptpad for years,” Havel wrote.
