Dunamu, the operator behind South Korea’s largest crypto exchange Upbit, has completed the latest phase of a major environmental initiative. A dedicated habitat for restoring endangered flora has been established in Seoul’s Boramae Park. The project leveraged non-fungible token technology and active community participation to make it happen.

Digital Seeds Sprout in the Real World

The new site covers 667 square meters on the grounds where the 2025 Seoul International Garden Fair took place. A total of 28 varieties of rare and wild herbs have been planted here.

This initiative is part of the third season of the Seed Vault NFT collection, a joint project with the National Institute of Arboretum Management and the Environmental Foundation.

The campaign bridges virtual assets and real nature. Seeds from the Baekdudaegan Global Seed Vault are digitized as 3D art. Sales of these NFTs secure funding for planting actual vegetation, which helps preserve biodiversity and forms a sustainable cycle of ecosystem restoration.

The third season attracted more than 50,000 participants during the exhibition. Organizers blended the online and offline experience, offering visitors tokens and real seeds based on their preferences. Surveys confirmed the method’s effectiveness: 86% of respondents reported increased interest in nature conservation, while 88% expressed willingness to participate in NFT-driven environmental campaigns again in the future.

Dunamu CEO Oh Kyung-seok noted that technology acts as a powerful tool for environmental protection. Previously, the company created similar restoration zones in the botanical gardens of Shingu University and Jinhae City. The exchange plans to continue developing blockchain-based social initiatives.
