Ubisoft has announced the launch of its new game, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., on the Arbitrum blockchain. Inspired by the Netflix animated series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, the game’s release is scheduled for next week. In anticipation of this event, Ubisoft has initiated a free drop of the Niji Warrior NFT collection.

What’s Known

Captain Laserhawk is a top-down multiplayer shooter set in a dystopian world. It’s expected to feature characters from Ubisoft’s iconic franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, and Beyond Good & Evil.

The Niji Warrior NFT grants holders the opportunity to participate in the game’s development. With these tokens, players can propose new gameplay mechanics, map designs, and story developments. Exclusive bonuses and the ability for the NFT to evolve based on player activity are also included.

According to Ubisoft’s Technical Director Didier Genevois, this initiative breaks new ground in collaborative game development, turning players into co-creators.

Design and Partnerships

The Niji Warrior collection consists of 10,000 tokens depicting pixelated robots and various creatures. The project is developed in collaboration with the Arbitrum Foundation and Sequence — a crypto gaming platform created by the developer of Skyweaver.

“In the past, players followed predetermined storylines. Now everything changes: the community gets to influence the game,” noted Nina Rong, Head of Partnerships at Arbitrum Foundation.

Ubisoft is actively pursuing projects in the blockchain sphere. Previously, the company introduced its first NFT-enabled game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, on the Oasys blockchain. User reactions were mixed: while they praised interesting strategic mechanics and team-based combat systems, they disliked the strong focus on NFTs, high prices for tokenized characters, and the VIP status system.
