U.S. President Donald Trump discussed cryptocurrencies in an interview on 60 Minutes, saying he views the sector positively and considers it a key part of the modern economy. He stressed that maintaining U.S. leadership in digital assets is one of his priorities amid growing competition from China.

“The only thing I care about is this – will we be number one in the cryptocurrency world?” Trump said. – “Cryptocurrencies are now a huge industry, if you can call it that. And I’m very proud that we’re far ahead of China and everyone else.”

According to Trump, his administration understands that excessive regulatory pressure on the market is unacceptable, as it “kills the industry and costs jobs.”

Crypto Trumps

Trump also addressed his family’s involvement in the crypto business.

The interviewer noted that the Trump family is now more associated with digital assets than real estate, citing the launch of World Liberty Financial in partnership with the Witkoff family.

Trump replied that his sons are not part of the government and simply manage the family business. He said he welcomes their interest in crypto, calling the industry “promising and full of opportunity.”

On Binance and CZ

The journalist asked why Trump pardoned former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ), who in 2023 was found guilty of violating U.S. regulations that allegedly enabled money laundering through the exchange.

Trump said he didn’t know Zhao personally, adding that he had only heard about what he described as “Biden’s witch hunt.”

The interviewer also mentioned reports that Binance had been involved in promoting the WLFI stablecoin before Zhao’s pardon in 2025, suggesting possible bribery. Trump said he was unaware of those claims and was focused on “more important things.”
