A crypto community member known as MiyaHedge posted a candid account on X, describing how a $2 million trading loss in 2024 led to a severe mental health crisis and near-death experience. In spring 2025, he experienced two clinical deaths due to drug overdoses. He is alive now but calls the experience a point of no return.
Loss of Capital
According to the trader, he lost a significant portion of his capital in summer 2024. Although the $2 million wasn’t his entire net worth, the blow was devastating. MiyaHedge wrote that he felt his dream of becoming a fund manager had collapsed forever, and he saw himself as just another failed speculator feeding profits to market makers.
He had been trading since the age of 14 and couldn’t imagine another path. After the loss, he withdrew from social life, locked himself in his apartment, worked 16 hours a day, stopped speaking to his girlfriend, and tried to recover his funds through extreme market focus.
Under the pressure and burnout, MiyaHedge began using illegal substances. He said stimulants allowed him to skip sleep, work for 40 hours straight, and always feel "at peak performance." But in March 2025, it ended in an overdose. His mother found him in the bathtub having convulsions, and only her presence saved his life.
Community Response
Most of the community responded with support. Trader Acsezino commented that few people could endure such cycles of pressure, anxiety, and stress. He emphasized the importance of taking profits and staying grounded. He also noted MiyaHedge was lucky his mother was there.
User arboose highlighted three key mistakes from the story:
- Trying to recover losses by working around the clock.
- Self-blame, which only deepens the crisis.
- Seeing losses as failure, when they are often stepping stones to growth.
He added that most successful traders have faced severe downturns, and such experiences build resilience.
In the comments, another user shared a simple but probably important insight:
"If fear haunts you even after making millions, you need to ask yourself what you're really afraid of. And maybe the best solution is to shut your laptop, go to the mountains, and be alone with yourself to understand what you've been running from."
