Nvidia has announced a new AI model for robotics called Groot N1. The development was showcased at the GTC 2025 conference in San Jose and is positioned as a universal solution for humanoid robots.

The model is based on training with both synthetic and real-world data and features a dual-level cognitive architecture, mimicking human-like thinking processes: fast and slow reasoning.

GR00T N1 is an evolution of last year's Project Groot, which was primarily focused on industrial applications. The new version covers a broader range of tasks, including autonomous systems across different formats.

How GR00T N1 Works

According to Nvidia, GR00T N1 combines two key mechanisms:

  • Slow Thinking — Responsible for analyzing the environment, understanding instructions, and developing strategies for actions.
  • Fast Thinking — Translates these strategies into precise movements, enabling complex object manipulations.

Along with the model, Nvidia introduced simulation environments and tools for synthetic data generation. The source code of GR00T N1 has also been made open-source for research and commercial applications.

Key Features & Capabilities of GR00T N1:

  • Versatility: Compatible with various robots, including Fourier GR-1 and 1X Neo, allowing them to perform complex manipulations.
  • Architecture: Features two core systems: Vision-Language Model (VLM) – Understands the environment and interprets instructions. Diffusion Transformer – Controls movement coordination and manipulation tasks.
  • Performance: Demonstrated a 45% higher success rate in object manipulation compared to previous models during simulations.
  • Data Sources: Trained using internet videos, synthetic datasets, and real-world interactions to help robots learn human-like movements.
  • Real-World Accuracy: Achieved 2-3x better precision in tasks involving object handling, movement coordination, and grasping accuracy.
  • Hardware Requirements: Minimum: RTX A6000 or RTX 4090 for training. Recommended: Jetson AGX Orin for real-time operation.

Practical Applications

GR00T N1 enables multi-step tasks that require advanced skill sets, such as:

  • Transferring objects between hands.
  • Packing and quality inspection.
  • Assembly line operations.

Developers can fine-tune the model using PyTorch with their own custom datasets.

Boom in Humanoid Robotics

The sector of versatile humanoid robots is experiencing rapid growth, with major tech firms developing systems that replicate human movements for a wide range of applications.

Despite significant technological advancements, mass production remains a major challenge. Experts note that achieving scalable, cost-effective deployment of such robots is still a work in progress.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has expressed strong confidence in the industry's trajectory, stating that "the future belongs to universal robotics, and GR00T N1 is a crucial step toward that vision."

Speculation Surrounding GR00T N1 and AI Tokens

Following Nvidia’s announcement, the crypto market saw an immediate surge in speculative tokens using the "Groot" name — despite having no official ties to Nvidia.

Many of these tokens quickly lost value, highlighting the risks of speculative trading in AI-themed assets. Investors should exercise caution and verify sources before making purchases.

State of the AI Crypto Market

According to analysts, the AI-crypto sector is showing signs of recovery:

  • Overall market growth: +2,8% in the last month.
Total AI sector market cap: $27.4 billion.
  • Top Gainers: Qubic (+50,2%) and LimeWire (+30,2%)
  • Biggest Losers: AI Companions (-29,1%) and AI Rig Complex (-21,7%).

The AI-token sector ranked 8th in overall growth, increasing by 13,2% compared to other crypto categories.

However, experts caution that hype-driven AI investments carry high volatility and risk.
