Netflix has confirmed work on the comedy “One Attempt Remaining”. The plot plays on the primal fear of any early holder: losing access to a wallet containing coins that have skyrocketed in price. Jennifer Garner is set to star in the project.

In the storyline, a divorced couple is forced to team up. They discover that cryptocurrency they once won on a cruise is now worth millions. However, the password is long forgotten, and time is working against them.

According to leaks on the industry resource What’s on Netflix, screenwriters added regulatory pressure to the mix. The characters receive a notice from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). They have just 48 hours to withdraw $35 million before their rights to the assets are annulled.

The film’s title — “One Attempt Remaining” — refers to the security mechanics of legacy hardware devices like IronKey: the drives automatically erase all data after ten failed password entries. This story echoes the real-life plight of Stefan Thomas, the former Ripple CTO who forgot the password to a hard drive holding 7002 Bitcoin. As of now, it is known he has unsuccessfully used eight attempts.

The script also recalls another high-profile drama: the story of James Howells. In 2013, the Welsh entrepreneur accidentally threw away a drive containing keys to 8000 BTC. He spent years suing local authorities for the right to excavate the city landfill, but by August 2025, he abandoned the idea, having exhausted all resources.
