Elon Musk’s company xAI has released an updated version of its AI model — Grok 3. The new development is set to become a serious competitor to GPT-4 and Gemini, offering improved data analysis capabilities and the ability to solve complex problems. Should OpenAI CEO Sam Altman be worried?
Grok 3 is a family of AI models developed by Elon Musk's xAI. According to the entrepreneur, the new version is significantly more powerful than its predecessor, Grok 2. To train the model, 200,000 graphic processing units (GPUs) were used in a data center in Memphis. The computational resources have increased tenfold, and the training dataset now includes court case materials.
The model is positioned as being "maximally truth-seeking," even if that contradicts common norms. Additionally, Grok 3 is capable of analyzing images, answering questions, and supporting features of the social network X.
xAI claims that Grok 3 outperforms GPT-4 in AIME tests (mathematical problems) and GPQA (PhD-level questions in physics, biology, and chemistry). The model also showed high results in the Chatbot Arena, where users compare the answers of different AI models.
In addition:
- The model will be used in gamemade. Musk revealed that the AI will have its own game studio.
- Grok 3 has a built-in DeepSearch function that scours the entire internet for an answer. Otherwise, the model formulates its own assumptions
The Grok 3 family includes two specialized models: Grok 3 Reasoning and Grok 3 mini Reasoning. These models can "think through" problems by fact-checking before providing an answer. This makes them especially useful for solving questions in mathematics, science, and programming.
Grok 3 will be first available to Premium+ subscribers on the X platform ($50 per month). For more advanced users, xAI offers the SuperGrok plan for $30 per month or $300 per year. This plan includes additional requests to Reasoning models, access to DeepSearch (a tool for analyzing information on the internet), and unlimited image generation.
In the near future, the Grok app will feature a voice mode, and in a few weeks, models will be available via xAI's enterprise API.
Elon Musk also announced plans to open the source code for Grok 2 in the coming months. According to him, the company will release earlier versions of the models once the newer ones become stable.
The businessman also said that if all goes well, SpaceX will send Starship rockets with Optimus and Grok robots to Mars.
