Tron network founder Justin Sun has completed a suborbital flight as part of Blue Origin’s NS-24 mission. He was joined by entrepreneurs, investors, and a meteorologist. The flight was successful, and Sun shared his impressions on X after returning.

Six-Person Crew

During the flight, Justin Sun was one of six participants aboard the NS-24 mission. He was joined by Alpha Funds founder J.D. Russell, entrepreneur Gökhan Erdem, real estate investor Arvi Bahal, meteorologist Deborah Martorell, and philanthropist Lionel Pitchford.

Sun had booked his ticket back in 2021 by purchasing the first seat on a suborbital flight for $28 million. He won the opportunity through an auction and secured access to participate in a future mission.

“Earth Is So Small”

After landing, Sun said the flight helped him realize the fragility of the planet. He admitted he was surprised by how small Earth appeared through the spacecraft’s window.

“We really must do everything we can to protect it.”

Blockchain Reaches Orbit

Alongside the flight, technological initiatives aiming to bring crypto projects beyond Earth are being actively discussed. For instance, in January 2024, Filecoin and Lockheed Martin successfully tested the IPFS protocol, transferring files from Earth to space and back via satellite.

According to Filecoin Foundation President Marta Belcher, decentralized data storage in space is critical for secure and reliable information transfer. IPFS reduces latency, protects against data corruption, and minimizes the risk of loss due to radiation damage to hard drives in orbit.

Additionally, in December 2024, the Spacecoin XYZ project launched the first satellite of its blockchain infrastructure for space-based communication.

A Million-Dollar Banana

Sun has previously made headlines for unconventional initiatives. In November 2024, he purchased Maurizio Cattelan’s controversial artwork “Comedian” at a Sotheby’s auction for $6.2 million — a banana taped to a wall. Sun later ate the banana, recreating collector David Datuna’s performance “Hungry Artist.”

The TRON (TRX) token showed little reaction to the new initiative. Over the past 24 hours, the asset rose by 1,79% to $0.3299.
