Executor wallets belonging to the LayerZero protocol were compromised, according to blockchain security firm PeckShield, citing data from Specter. The attacker stole a total of $2.4M in crypto assets, carrying out the theft across multiple networks simultaneously. Transfers from the affected addresses took place within a two-hour window.

The stolen funds were then bridged to Ethereum, where the attacker exchanged most of the assets for 956 ETH worth $1.79M. The remaining funds were converted into $322,000 in USDC.

Scope of the Attack

The stolen funds came from Ethereum, BNB Chain, Base, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Mantle, and Plasma. On-chain tracking data also adds Polygon, Linea, Unichain, Sonic, opBNB, and Gnosis to the list of affected networks.

The biggest losses came from Base, where the attacker withdrew 100 ETH worth nearly $188,000, and Arbitrum, where another 90 ETH worth $169,000 was stolen. More than 200 BNB was drained from BNB Chain, while 500,000 POL worth approximately $42,000 was taken from Polygon. The attacker also withdrew 3,000 AVAX worth $20,000 from Avalanche. The remaining networks each accounted for losses of between $13,000 and $50,000.
