The team behind the Ethereum NFT project Goblintown has announced its first video game, Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game, for PC and Mac. The game will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and the first trailer has already been released.
According to the announcement, Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game is an arcade runner similar to Temple Run and Dookey Dash, where players will control the iconic Goblintown Burger Truck. Judging by the trailer, the game promises to be challenging: at the end of the trailer, the developers mentioned that even one of their mothers couldn't keep the truck on the road.
No Blockchain, But with Web3 Heritage
Although the Goblintown project is closely tied to the cryptocurrency ecosystem, the game will not feature any NFT or blockchain integration. As explained by co-founder and CEO of Truth Labs, Alexander Taub, the developers decided to release a "pure Web2 game" without tokens or NFT mechanics.
This decision is influenced by Valve's policy: since 2021, Steam has prohibited the release of games with blockchain integration, while Epic Games, on the other hand, is open to such projects.
However, Goblintown is not completely abandoning Web3. According to Taub, the game will be connected to the Ethereum Layer-2 solution Abstract, developed by Igloo Inc., the parent company of Pudgy Penguins.
"Abstract focuses on streaming, and we believe our game will be one of the most spectacular for streams in 2025," Taub said.
Goblintown Already Appeared on Steam
Although Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game will be the first official game of the franchise, characters from the project have already appeared in another popular title. In 2023, art from Goblintown was featured in Only Up, an indie platformer game.
The developer of Only Up, known by the username Indiesolodev, was able to legally use Goblintown images as they were distributed under the Creative Commons 0 (CC0) license. However, a few months later, he removed the game from Steam, citing stress and a desire to move on.
Goblintown NFT Prices Surge
Amid the announcement of Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game, interest in the original Goblintown NFT collection has surged. According to NFT Price Floor, in the last 24 hours, the price of Goblintown NFTs increased by nearly 20%, reaching $570.
The game is expected to be released in 60-90 days. Additional details, including mechanics related to Abstract, will be revealed closer to the release date.
