FIFA has announced the migration of Its NFT Platform, FIFA Collect, to a dedicated blockchain network built on Avalanche infrastructure.
This new level of integration is expected to deliver scalability and fast transaction processing for FIFA’s global audience of over 5 billion fans.
New Blockchain for Digital Fan Experience
According to the official statement, the newly introduced FIFA Blockchain, first revealed in early May, is based on Avalanche infrastructure and is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). This ensures smooth integration with decentralized wallets and applications. Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex and FIFA Collect, stated that Avalanche was chosen after evaluating performance, security, fees, customization, and scalability parameters.
The platform will allow FIFA to issue digital collectible assets and expand fan engagement services. The new network will replace the previous architecture that operated on Algorand.
Disabling Old Wallets and Launch via MetaMask
Following the migration of the NFT marketplace and FIFA Collect collection to the new blockchain, support for Algorand-based wallets, including Pera and Defly, will be discontinued. Users will be able to connect via MetaMask and other EVM-compatible wallets with WalletConnect support.
The migration process will affect both previously issued tokens and the infrastructure used for launching new collections. FIFA stated that additional products and network use cases are in development but are not yet ready for public disclosure.
Background: Launch of Collections and Gaming Services
FIFA launched its first NFT collection in collaboration with Modex ahead of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. Later, in November 2024, FIFA announced a partnership with Mythical Games to launch FIFA Rivals — a free mobile football simulator for iOS and Android.
The organization is now moving toward creating a full-scale NFT infrastructure based on its own blockchain, choosing Avalanche technology as the foundation.
