The reality of the sale of NFT number 1563 from the popular CryptoPunks collection for $56.3M is in question.

On October 3, it was reported that CryptoPunks token 1563 was bought for 24,000 Ethereum (ETH) worth $56.3 million at the exchange rate at the time of the transaction. However, experts had doubts that someone dared to pay so much for NFT, despite the falling popularity of non-interchangeable tokens.

It turned out that the buyer of the digital asset took Ethereum on loan from DeFi Balancer and repaid the debt some time later. Therefore, it becomes obvious that the owner of the token sold it to himself and spent a few dollars on transaction processing fees. A similar situation happened in October 2021, when someone borrowed $532 million worth of cryptocurrency, spent it to buy a token from the CryptoPunks series and immediately returned the borrowed coins.

The blockchain sleuth, known by the pseudonym Quit, said that the fictitious transaction involving the sale of CryptoPunks 1563 was made to promote the Kamala Harris Punk token meme dedicated to US presidential candidate Kamala Harris. He came to this conclusion because the smart contract developed for the issuance of Kamala Harris Punk accepts bids for the purchase of CryptoPunks 1563.
