Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) announced on July 9 that Binance Pay is now available on 5,000 Alatau City Bank POS terminals. The service lets customers pay for goods with cryptocurrency by scanning a QR code through the Binance app, while merchants receive settlements in Kazakh tenge through automatic conversion.
The integration was first unveiled this spring, and the service has now been fully integrated into the bank’s payment infrastructure.
This rollout is directly tied to the development of Alatau City, a $6.0B project being built as Central Asia’s digital hub with a dedicated crypto cluster, where digital assets are used in everyday transactions.
In late June, Solana Company signed a memorandum with the project’s administration. The company is involved in developing blockchain infrastructure, managing digital assets, accelerating institutional blockchain adoption, and building digital platforms.
Earlier, Kazakhstan launched the region’s first Solana-based economic zone in Astana and listed a Solana ETF on the local stock exchange. The new payment capabilities add to that momentum, bringing everyday crypto use one step closer to reality.
