NFT gaming project Axie Infinity has released a trailer for its new MMO, Atia’s Legacy, set in the Axie universe. Developer Sky Mavis first announced the project in November 2024 and has now revealed additional details about its upcoming release.
Next Evolution of Axie Infinity
Atia’s Legacy is described as the “next chapter” in the Axie Infinity franchise, continuing the concept of true ownership of digital assets. According to the developers, the game integrates all key Web3 technologies developed over the past seven years.
Gameplay Features: 3D Combat, Mini-Games, and Farming Simulation
The trailer showcases significant improvements compared to previous Axie Infinity titles. Instead of 2D turn-based battles, the new game will introduce:
- A 3D combat system
- Mini-games, including puzzle-solving and fishing
- A farming simulation with resource management mechanics
Sky Mavis stated that if development stays on schedule, the first player tests could begin in 2025.
AXS Rewards for Inviting New Players
Sky Mavis has also launched a referral program where players can earn Axie Infinity’s AXS tokens for bringing new users into the game. The reward size increases as the player base grows.
Additionally, the company promised to release a minimum viable product (MVP), which will include:
- Team-based battles
- Progression system
- PvE content (battles against NPCs)
- Resource gathering, crafting, and social mechanics
However, the exact release date for the full game remains unspecified.
Regulatory Landscape & Metaverse Developments
The launch of Atia’s Legacy coincides with significant regulatory shifts regarding NFTs in the U.S.:
- The SEC closed investigations into OpenSea and Yuga Labs, stating that “NFTs are not securities.” Donald Trump’s crypto advisor David Sacks has proposed classifying NFTs as “collectible assets.”
- Trump’s company, DTTM Operations, has filed a trademark for ‘TRUMP’ for use in an NFT marketplace and metaverse.
The evolving regulatory environment could have a major impact on the NFT gaming sector, potentially benefiting projects like Axie Infinity.
