The payment company unveiled Amex Passport, a collection of digital stamps that record customer trips in the format of ERC-721 non-fungible tokens. The storage is based on Ethereum Layer 2 Base.

According to the company’s website, each stamp can be personalized by adding a description of the best experiences, from a landmark and hotel to a dish or an activity. The stamps include the country or region, a short description, and the travel date. Personal data and detailed routes are not displayed.

Luke Gebb, Executive Vice President of Amex Digital Labs, noted that the disappearance of physical passport stamps has created demand for new forms of souvenirs. According to him, Amex Passport allows clients to preserve their travel memories in digital form.

The program is available only to holders of Amex consumer cards in the United States that are linked to online accounts. The NFTs cannot be transferred to other users.

According to BaseScan, the smart contract for Amex Passport was created 25 days ago.

Based on an American Express survey, 73% of respondents said they would like to have more digital ways to record their trips. Another 56% noted that they miss passport stamps when crossing borders.

Previously completed trips booked through Amex over the past two years will be automatically added to Amex Passport. The stamps can be shared on social media or saved in a smartphone gallery.
