Blockchain investigator ZachXBT linked the theft of 180,900 SOL to a major Solana holder connected to the network’s original genesis token distribution. He also found that the stolen funds were moved through Ethereum.
Unknown attackers stole 180,900 SOL worth about $14.2M from a major Solana holder associated with the network’s original genesis token distribution. According to ZachXBT, the suspicious activity began several hours earlier with an unexpected unstaking of the tokens.
After the assets were unstaked, the attackers bridged the funds from the Solana network to Ethereum, where they continued moving the funds. The unusual transactions were first spotted by a researcher using the pseudonym specterinvestigation, after which ZachXBT joined the investigation.
At the time of publication, the identities of the attackers and the cause of the wallet compromise remain unknown. The Solana team has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
