In recent years, the field of artificial intelligence has experienced a rapid surge in development, and OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, believes that this revolution could surpass all previous advancements. In a conversation with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, these technology leaders discussed the nuances of AI, its rapid progress, representation, and touched upon topics such as ChatGPT, GPT-5, and others, as reported by HT Tech.

According to reports, Altman stated that the AI revolution will progress at an unprecedented pace, emphasizing the swift integration of this technology into society. Interestingly, Altman also shared insights into the potential applications of GPT-5 and his own preferences.

During the Unconfuse Me podcast with Bill Gates, Sam Altman from OpenAI remarked, "Currently, GPT-4 answers each question 10,000 times. While one of those answers is likely to be very good, the challenge lies in the model's inability to consistently determine which one. The task is to consistently extract the best answer out of the 10,000 possible responses, highlighting the importance of increasing reliability."

According to the CEO of OpenAI, in the next two years, the integration of speech, images, and videos may become vital. Although OpenAI already provides capabilities to work with images and audio in their current models, there are opportunities for improvement that will bring us closer to realizing a vision where the real world is represented beyond just text.

Transformer, GPT-4.5 or GPT-5, is expected to bring significant transformations in personalization and customization. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, emphasized that the key improvements will revolve around the model's ability to understand individual preferences, utilize user information such as emails, calendars, meeting preferences, and establish connections with external data sources.

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, expressed his surprise to Sam Altman during the conversation. Gates admitted that he was initially skeptical about the capabilities of ChatGPT but was pleasantly surprised by its development, noting that he didn't expect it to become so impressive.

In recent months, there has been increasing excitement surrounding the new, more powerful version of ChatGPT, known as GPT-5. This model is considered a significant step towards achieving artificial general intelligence, where machines can think like humans.

That's what we know about the successor to ChatGPT, GPT-5.

GPT-5 is the next iteration of OpenAI's advanced chatbot, GPT-4, which requires a monthly subscription for usage.

GPT, short for generative pre-trained transformer, refers to a large language model capable of generating human-like text and content, including images. In the case of ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot can engage in conversational question-answering.

In an interview with the Financial Times, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that the company is actively working on GPT-5, although no specific release timeline was provided.

Earlier denials from Altman addressed rumors about the training of a new AI model in March and June.

However, the situation appears to have changed. During a September event for Y Combinator alumni, Altman reportedly mentioned GPT-5 and GPT-6, according to two attendees.

Omar Shams, founder and CEO of Mutable AI, claimed that Altman indicated both AI models are already in development.

Another attendee, Iba Masud, founder of an AI startup supported by Y Combinator, shared that Altman discussed the advancements of GPT-5 and GPT-6 compared to their predecessors.

Regarding the capabilities of GPT-5, Masud mentioned that Altman highlighted its improved reliability, better personalization, and ability to produce multimodal results, as reported by The Standard.

Multimodal AI involves training and utilizing content that includes images, audio, video, and numerical data. While GPT-4 is considered multimodal to some extent, accepting text or image input but providing only text output, the advancements in GPT-5 and GPT-6 are expected to enhance these capabilities.

However, Altman clarified that the next version of ChatGPT still falls short of achieving true artificial general intelligence, despite claims made by Masud and Shams.

Altman hinted at the intellectual capabilities of GPT-5 in his interview with the Financial Times, mentioning that it would require more training data. The plan is to use publicly available datasets from the internet, as well as large proprietary datasets from organizations, including extensive letters and conversations in various formats.

During his appearance on Bill Gates' podcast Unconfuse Me in mid-January, Altman stated, "Multimodality will definitely be significant. It is evident that people truly desire it. We will be able to advance it much further, but perhaps the most crucial areas of progress will be associated with the ability to reason."

However, Altman previously expressed the challenge of predicting the model's new capabilities and skills until its training begins.

The Battle of GPT-5 versus GPT-4

How can it surpass GPT-4? First and foremost, it will have to surpass GPT-4 Turbo, the next-generation model released by OpenAI in November for paid subscribers.

The company's most advanced chatbot possesses knowledge of world events up until April 2023, whereas GPT-4's knowledge extends only until 2021. It can analyze even longer queries of up to 128,000 tokens, roughly equivalent to the volume of a 300-page book. It performs better at following instructions and can automatically switch between tools, including the image generator Dall-E 3 and the Bing search engine, based on user queries.

OpenAI and several researchers have also put the chatbot to the test in real exams. GPT-4 demonstrated its potential by passing the notoriously challenging Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) exam, scoring 90% on the bar exam, mastering the reading and writing section of the SAT, and achieving a percentile rank of 99-100 in the semifinal round of the US Biology Olympiad in 2020.

There is currently no data available about the availability of GPT-5. In the article written at the time of its publication, OpenAI had not announced a launch date for GPT-5. It appears that they may not have even started training the AI model by November.

It is also unclear whether the situation at OpenAI at the end of last year had an impact on this. On November 17th, Altman was removed from the company's board of directors. After a five-day period of uncertainty caused by conflicting views on the future of AI, Altman returned to lead the company with a new board of directors.

Interestingly, some ChatGPT users recently claimed that the bot informed them it was working on a new AI model called GPT-4.5 Turbo, but it turned out to be a mistake.
